Hicksville Physical Therapy’s state-of-the-art technology continuously proves second to none. We readily offer a 3D spinal decompression unit, whose unique features stand out amongst our competitors. This unit is designed to accommodate proper, precise decompression at targeted discs by controlling multiple planes of axial decompression simultaneously.
Our extensive methods for spinal decompression are extremely up-to-date, and we are the only physical therapy facility on Long Island, NY to offer the Laser and Axial Decompression for Discs with Exercise and Rehabilitation (LADDER) program.
At Hicksville Physical Therapy, we use the same spinal decompression protocol that was used in a study resulting in an impressive 86% success rate. Combine this protocol with our Class IV laser, proper bracing and stabilization training, as well as hands-on manual techniques, and you have an incomparable formula for recovery.
Daniel Oest P.T., M.P.T. works alongside several established physicians from a range of backgrounds in rehabilitating pre and post-surgical spinal disorders. Daniel’s mastery in the McKenzie Extension, Williams Flexion, and DonTigny Techniques are unmatched making him a trsuted back and spine specialist in the Hicksville, Nassau County, and Long Island area. Daniel recently developed and owns the patent for a revolutionary device, “Correct-A-Back,” that corrects pelvic and lower-back malalignments to alleviate back pain and sciatica symptoms.
Spinal Decompression Therapy (DTS) is a non-invasive disc therapy with targeted core stabilization. Treatments consist of 20 office visits in close succession. It is widely reported that the majority of patients experience long-term relief from pain when they complete the entire program. As a matter of fact, clinical studies have demonstrated effectiveness in over 70-75% of patients.
DTS is the most extensive program available, allowing safe delivery of the previously hospital-based procedure in our office. Treatments are one of the most gentle and comfortable therapies available; in fact, most patients report falling asleep during sessions.
Nearly all patients finish treatment after eight weeks. The greatest advantage of this form of therapy is the ability to continue working during the entirety of the program.
Using the DTS Spinal Decompression Unit, the vertebrae of the spine are slowly separated, gradually reducing pressure within the disc (intradiscal pressure). This creates a sort of vacuum, which then “sucks” the gelatinous center of the disc back inside, thereby reducing the disc bulge or herniation. Significant reduction removes pressure off the spinal nerves and drastically reduces pain and disability. This vacuum also pulls oxygen, nutrients and fluid into the injured/degenerated discs, allowing the healing process to begin. Advanced techniques cycle between brief moments of pulling and relaxing (oscillation).
Your physical therapist will determine the number of sessions and the specific treatment plan best for you. In The majority of cases, the treatments are completely painless, and individual sessions typically last about 30-45 minutes. Standard therapy includes daily visits for the first two weeks, 3 times a week for the third week, and 2 times a week for the next couple of weeks, or as recommended by the physical therapist.
We at Hicksville Physical Therapy have sorted through several options through our research and have determined the FDA registered Eurotech DOC decompression system to be our favored option.
Evaluation, proper positioning and pre programmed patterns of distraction and relaxation may reduce disc pressure allowing necessary nutrients to enliven and accelerate disc healing.
All individuals with back or neck pain due to part of or a whole damaged disc may benefit from spinal decompression therapy. Commonly treated conditions include herniated, protruding or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, and sciatica or even failed surgery.
Typically, patients documented pain reduction following the first few sessions. Significant improvement is reported within the second week of treatment.
Yes; one study recorded by MRI cataloged 90% reduction of disc herniations in 10/14 cases. Other studies noted that the majority of herniated disc patients achieved “good" to “excellent" (greater than 70%) results after therapy.
DTS is not recommended for pregnant women, patients who have severe osteoporosis, severe obesity or severe nerve damage. Individuals with spinal surgery with instrumentation (screws, metal plates or “cages”) are also not recommended. However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion surgery can be performed.
To encourage the healing process, passive therapies (ice/heat/muscle stimulation), and/or active rehabilitation are provided to strengthen the spinal musculature.
